Have you ever been there? Going on a holiday or business trip, arriving at the airport at the other end of the world, hardly having slept on the plane, feet swollen, and with breath that could easily poison all the inhabitants of the content you landed on. First thing you want now is grab your bag, go to your hotel and freshen up. And there you are, standing at the baggage claim, eagerly waiting for your bag to pop up.  And after what seems to be an endless amount of time, you find yourself as the last one standing, no luggage and an empty baggage carousel. Oh, horror, it got lost….

Two guys from Sweden experienced the exact same thing in 2008. Waking up in their hotel room, the only clothing they had was the stuff they already spent the last 24 hours in. And although the day did not start out very well, it was the day Bread & Boxers was born. Bread & Boxers started out as an extension of the minibar; a pack of underwear favorites, including boxers, panties and socks, accessible in hotel rooms.  But since guests liked those high quality basics so much, they asked if they could also find them in stores to home. So in 2011 those guys began to sell their underwear in selected stores throughout Scandinavia. And today they can also be found in Amsterdam: Hotel Vondel, Hotel Roemer and Hotel JLNo76 offer the minibar extension concept.

But even if you haven’t lost your bag, these basics could turn out to be your favourite ones, and thankfully they can also be found in a number of shops throughout Amsterdam. As their philosophy holds: ‘Being part of the everyday routine, getting great underwear, should be as simple as picking up the morning bread.’ There is only one point of criticism. Those great undies are only available for men… So this shout out goes to Alexander Palmgren and Hendrik Lindahl: Please, for the sake of all the feminine travelers, a women’s minibar extension would make the world such a better place.
